3 Goals I Plan to Focus on this Year

Around this time, last year, I remember everyone on twitter complaining about how long January was and how they couldn’t wait for it to be over. I on the other hand was completely shocked by how fast the month had gone by. I felt like someone pressed fast forward on 2018. But that’s the thing with time, it waits for no one. So here we are in 2019, January is once again over and February is making its mark.

Unlike those of you who hate January, January for me is an exciting month. It’s like writing on the first page of a fresh new notebook. January kind of sets the tone for the first quarter. Three weeks ago I did my first shoot where I got to work with an amazing team on a concept that I actually liked. I want to be be a full fledge Beauty Editorial Makeup Artist, so my main goal this year is to do as many beauty/headshot photoshoots as possible.

Behind the Scenes Photoshoot

In addition to doing more shoots, i’ve decided this will be the year that I get a mentor. I’m at the point in my freelance journey where I need some guidance to help develop me as an artist. I would also like the opportunity to shadow an artist and see what its like to assist a full time Makeup Artist. Next year will make ten years since I attended Beauty school and I just want to get to a point where I’m happy with the direction that my Makeup career is going.

“There are people less qualified than you, doing the things you want to do simply because they decide to believe in themselves. Period.”

The one thing that has hampered my journey as a Makeup Artist is the fear of judgement. This year my focus is to push myself past my comfort zone and stop worrying about whether someone will like my esthetic or not. Although at times I feel I am my own worst critic. When self doubt starts to creep up in my mind, I think of this well shared Instagram quote that says, “ There are people less qualified than you, doing the things you want to do simply because they decide to believe in themselves. Period.” Its a great reminder to myself that I am good enough!

Finally, I want to introduce a series on my blog called Makeup, Moods and Moments (MMM). MMM will focus on the things that I’m loving at the moment, how I’m feeling and just overall things in the makeup industry that I think needs a quick mention. Hopefully, it will be a nice change to just seeing blogpost from me.

Overall, I am looking forward to making some serious strides this year. I pray God blesses me in all aspects of my life and that I remember that faith without work is dead. So here’s to 2019 and all that it has to offer.

Until Next time….
